Ted and his wife Melissa, along with their four children,  own and operate Delta Dairy LLC in Baskin La.  He represents the dairy industry on the board.

Ted was introduced to grass based dairy production by a friend in 2001.  At that time the Millers operated a hog finishing farm in central Pennsylvania that had a lot of under utilized pasture.  With the idea of supplementing farm income, they decided to build a small seasonal grass-based dairy on the property.  Quickly outgrowing their Pennsylvania land base, Ted and Melissa made the decision to move their operation in 2009 to the lower Mississippi River Delta in Louisiana and partner with Charles and Dorothy Opitz on a seasonal grass based dairy start-up project.

Today Delta Dairy LLC milks 450 cows and raises 600 head of young stock on 1200 acres including 670 irrigated acres.  While working to improve soil health on previously abused and highly eroded farmland, Ted has seen first hand the benefits of a carefully managed grazing rotation system in improving organic levels and water holding capability of the soil.

The Millers continue to strive to improve soil health at Delta Dairy with the goal to reduce outside input costs while capturing a sustainable economic margin from grass based milk production.
