Kendra Young

Digital Resources

Kendra's passion for agriculture and the rural culture began at a very young age. She was raised on a beef ranch in western Colorado, and later a sheep and meat goat operation in central Utah. Kendra graduated from the University of Montana with a B.S. degree in terrestrial wildlife biology. Prior to working with NatGLC, Kendra has had a diverse background; working with agricultural and natural resource conservation entities at the local, state, and federal levels across several western states, in both the government and private sectors. She credits all of these roles with highlighting and growing her love for the diversity and uniqueness in western agriculture that she is now committed to assisting.

Tom Shea

NORTH CENTRAL REGION RESOURCE MANAGER

Digital Resources

Tom grew up in North Carolina where he spent most of his free time at the barn and riding horses. He attended NC State University where he studied Conservation Biology and Animal Science. During his summers in college, Tom spent time in Idaho and Montana in internships with grazing experts and working as a ranch hand. After graduating he moved to eastern South Dakota where he managed a cow/calf to finish operation. Then, Tom moved to Minnesota, where he was the Livestock Manager for a custom grazing company. He specialized in using sheep and goats to manage land. During this time, Tom developed a special interest in raising small ruminants and solar grazing. After spending a couple of years in Minnesota, Tom and his wife decided to move back to North Carolina, where he worked as a Livestock Extension Agent.

Tom has a Masters degree in Veterinary Science focused on Livestock Systems Management from the University of Illinois. He has utilized his degree and diverse livestock experience to develop whole system management programs focused on grazing, health and economics for cattle, sheep, goats, horses and ostriches. Tom enjoys working with established ranchers as well as new and beginning producers.

NORTHEASTERN REGION RESOURCE MANAGER

Troy Bishopp

Digital Resources

Troy is a relentless advocate for grass-based systems in the Northeast. The former NYS Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative Chairman farms for the next generations at Bishopp Family Farm in Central New York utilizing a hundred acres of integrity-managed pastures that finish beef animals, feed diverse possibilities and nourish the local community. With over 40 years in the field, he practices the art of “Linger Grazing” where he observes the little things and how they effect the bigger things on the journey to optimize happiness.

For over 19 years he’s taken his practical grazing approaches, planning, grazing chart monitoring, master fence building, communication and training facilitation experience to the local Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Upper Susquehanna Coalition as their grazing specialist.  He implements profitable, holistic, managed-grazing systems and “meets people where they are”.  His “reading the land” strategies have helped hundreds of area farmers in multiple watersheds. He has led countless grazing infrastructure & pilot projects, pasture walks, “Grasstravaganza & Grazeapalooza” conferences and presents at regional and national farm events.

As a reformed work-a-holic, he enjoys spending life with his soulmate & wife, Corrine, being a father & Pop Pop to his daughters and grandchildren, adventuring on camping trips, hooking a feisty fish and visiting with good friends.

Troy is excited to work to meet the needs of Northeast graziers from beginning to veteran, form awesome partnerships that accelerate grazing management education and adoption, create a mentoring mindset through his boots-on-the-ground approach and be a catalyst for change who advocates daily on the importance of grasslands for a hungry nation.
